The Journal of Reproducible Health Sciences publishes reproducible research in the health sciences, and is edited by its founding field editor. A broader, institutionally independent editorial board is being formed and will be announced on this page, each member listed with name, affiliation and country.
Founding field editor
- Jürgen Degenfellner, ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Winterthur, Switzerland.
He is one of the two founders of FAIR Press Journals and also edits another title in the imprint, and his own research is in the health sciences — which is why this journal is edited from inside the field it publishes. We state that plainly rather than implying a depth of subject-matter editorship a new title does not yet have: breadth is what the board is for. Every editorial decision is read and signed by a named editor, and the editor who signs is named to the authors in the decision letter — accountability rests with a person, not a process.
The board that is forming
The journal launches editor-led, and the wider board is being assembled: a small board of five to eight members across the journal's sections — epidemiology, public and global health, clinical and rehabilitation sciences, health data science and biostatistics, environmental and occupational health. Board members advise on scope and act as ambassadors for reproducible research; day-to-day editing stays with the editors. Everyone listed on this page is published with name, affiliation and country, and members are added as they confirm.
We never list anyone without their explicit consent. A board padded with names that were never asked is the classic marker of a predatory journal, and it is checked: an appearance on this page always means the person agreed to appear on it. The same rule holds across every FAIR Press Journals title.
Independence safeguards
- Editors do not publish their own research in the journal they edit; an editor of another FAIR Press Journals title who submits here is treated as any other author and takes no part in any decision about it (see the ethics policy).
- An appeal is never heard by the editor who signed the contested decision. Because this journal is edited by one of the imprint's founders, an appeal against a decision of this journal is decided by the founder of FAIR Press Journals who did not sign the decision — Matthias Templ — who reviews the process rather than re-judging the science; where he is conflicted too, an external ad-hoc arbiter is appointed. As the board forms, board members take over the standing arbiter role (see the complaints & appeals procedure).
- The founders of FAIR Press Journals also run the imprint's optional, separately priced safe-companion-dataset service. An editor takes no part in any service decision about a paper they handle, and takes no part in any editorial decision about a paper whose authors engaged the service; where a published article's authors used it, that is disclosed on the article.
- Every decision is auditable: the assessment record behind each verdict is persisted and can be re-examined.
